Safety posters: text version
Nine posters, one big rule each. Here are the words on every poster and what each picture shows.
Accessible text version. This page has the same words as the nine safety posters (PDF, 9 pages, 5.9 MB), with headings that work with screen readers, zoom and reading tools. Each poster has a big title at the top, one short safety message under it and a picture filling the rest of the page.
1. Stop, Drop, and Roll!
If your clothes catch fire: STOP. DROP to the ground. Cover your face. ROLL until the fire is out.
[Picture: Freddy rolls on the grass with his hands over his face as Frieda cheers him on. Both wear red helmets and yellow firefighter coats.]
2. Get Low and Go!
Smoke rises, so the air near the floor is usually cleaner. Crawl under the smoke to get out.
[Picture: Frieda crawls out of a colorful play tunnel under a cloud of gray pretend smoke as Captain Gus cheers her on.]
3. Get Out and Stay Out!
Go straight to your meeting place. Never go back inside. If someone is still inside, tell a firefighter.
[Picture: Grandpa, Freddy, Frieda and Pepper wave from their meeting place by the mailbox, with a fire engine parked behind them.]
4. Test Your Smoke Alarms!
Push the test button once a month with a grown-up. Hear the BEEP? You're ready!
[Picture: Grandpa stands on a step stool and presses the smoke alarm's test button while Freddy and Frieda cover their ears and Pepper howls.]
5. Know Two Ways Out!
Find two ways out of every room, like a door and a window.
[Picture: At night, Freddy and Frieda in pajamas point to the bedroom door and the window.]
6. Firefighters Are Friends!
A firefighter in a mask is coming to help. Don't hide. Go to them!
[Picture: A firefighter in full gear, with a mask and an air pack, kneels and waves to Frieda, Freddy and Pepper, who wave back.]
7. Kid-Free Zone!
Stay at least 3 feet away from the stove and from space heaters.
[Picture: Grandpa cooks at the stove while Freddy, Frieda and Pepper play with blocks behind a blue tape line on the kitchen floor.]
8. Tell a Grown-Up!
Matches and lighters are tools for grown-ups. If you find one, don't touch it. Tell a grown-up right away.
[Picture: Freddy points at a lighter on the coffee table and tells Grandpa, with Frieda beside him.]
9. Know Your Address!
Learn your street address so you can tell a 9-1-1 helper where you live.
[Picture: Grandpa, Freddy and Frieda point at the house number sign on the gatepost, with Pepper and Mittens the kitten.]
